President Obama may think he’s in legal trouble from Republican House Speaker John Boehner over his executive orders. However, he couldn’t possibly have foreseen the trouble he would find himself following a recent innocent visit to a DC-area Chipotle.
Looking to grab a quick-lunch this Monday before having to address the White House Summit on Working Families, President Obama unleashed a social media firestorm after reaching his arm over the sneeze-guard that protects workers from customers. According to Chipotle’s national office, “no changes have been made with regard to sneeze guard rules, and the President shouldn’t have reached over it.”
House Republicans weren’t as easily pleased. Minnesota Congresswoman and longtime opponent of President Obama, Michele Bachmann, was furious.
“This is yet another example of a President who believes in government overreach,” said Bachmann.“Doesn’t the president know that placing his arm over the sneeze guard could lead to giving employees autism?”
Of course Republican outrage didn’t stop there. Both Republican Reps. Steve King (R-IA) and Darrell Issa (R-CA) are calling for impeachment of President Obama for what they say is a violation of the Sneezeguard Powers Act.
“The president needs to be held accountable for circumscribing the constitution and violating the Sneezeguard Powers Act,” said Rep. Issa. “I would much rather be pursing frivolous matters instead of having to focus on such important issues as this.”
And Republican Congressman Steve King was equally upset.
“Yet again this president thinks he’s above the law,” said Rep King.“He’s fully aware he was supposed to consult with Congress before encroaching the Sneezeguard.”
