According to a press release from News Corp., the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is ordering Fox News to change its tagline from “Fair and Balanced” to “We Strive to Misinform.” It seems that the FCC in buckling down on news sources to be credible and honest to their viewers.
The FCC in no way intends to change the format or programming, but simply wants Fox News to label itself genuinely. The press release reads as follows:
In an effort to boost our credibility with viewers around the world, News Corp. has decided to comply with the new directive from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to restructure our tagline to more appropriately represent the content of Fox News. The FCC has informed us that we are no longer allowed to use “Fair and Balanced” because it is an inaccurate depiction of the programming we regularly schedule. The tagline that will be used for Fox News per consent of the FCC will now be “We Strive to Misinform.” Programming will continue as usual and we would like to sincerely thank all of our viewing population for their dedication to this network.
The FCC is taking a look at all networks not to single out only Fox News. However at the moment, it seems that Fox News is the only network that has had to make a tagline change. We will keep you updated if any other changes occur.
